There are many reasons why this is an attractive option for this demographic but it comes down to 3 main factors:
1.) Location
Many people looking into the downsizing/right-sizing option typically don't want to leave their current neighbourhoods & the vast majority already live in fairly central locations (Cabbagetown, Forrest Hill, etc.).
2.) Livability (aging in place)
The average age of our clients that are going through this process is 65 years old and many are starting to think about what their living situation will be like when they get older.
A large condo is a very attractive option since it provides them the space they need/they're used to but have the convenience of condo living since there is no gardening/snow shovelling/maintenance to worry about.
In addition, having all of the living space on one floor is an ideal setup since it makes it easier to move around should the use of a walker/mobility scooter be needed.
3.) Lifestyle
Many of these condos that are tailored to the older adult demographic (1 Palace Pier, 1 Benvenuto Pl, 18 William Carson) have amenities such as putting greens, sport simulators, libraries, pools & even convenience stores to make it easier for the residents to live an active lifestyle within their own building.
There are typically lots of clubs to join as well which can make it a very engaging place to live in, especially when living with our people in your same age group!
