Roche Bobois | History, Iconic Products & Design Philosophy
Roche Bobois is one of the most iconic names in luxury furniture & for a good reason.
Their uncompromising pursuit to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces results in items that strike a perfect balance between art & functionality.
The company was founded in 1960 when two competing Parisian families (Roche & Chouchan) who owned furniture stores decided to combine forces & create one unified brand, Roche Bobois.
Instead of relying on other companies to design their products, they decided to do everything in-house through partnerships with renowned furniture designers like Pierre Paulin (more recently with Kenzo Takada, Gautier & Christian Lacroix).
This ultimately led to a creative vision that was truly different than anything else on the market.
With such distinctive designs & meticulous quality, the brand has grown to be globally-renowned with over 270 stores now open around the world.
Bombom Collection
Designed by visual artist Joana Vasconcelos, the Bombom Collection uses fluid & organic shapes in addition to bold colours to produce an eye-catching collection of furniture.
One neat part of the design is that all of the back cushions can be independently positioned so you can have numerous configurations on which to enjoy the sofa.
Top 3 Iconic Pieces of Furniture
Infinitely adaptable, the Mahjong collection was developed by Hans Hopfer in 1971 and has been the brands most widely-recognized, iconic piece ever since.
The design philosophy behind Mahjong was simple.
Have three basic elements that can be combined together to create whatever seating area you need, whether it be a sofa, armchair or lounge-bed.
Intended to look like a water droplet, this stunning dining table designed by Fabrice Berrux fuses together a marble base (white Carrara or black Marquina) with a Fénix®-coated top that is both scratch & fingerprint proof.
A truly exquisite piece of furniture, the Astrolab dining table mimics the intricate insides of a watch face which serves as a functional piece that raises/lowers the glass leaflet & extends the table when needed.
Bubble Collection
One of my favourite collections that Roche Bobois offers is the Bubble Collection designed by Sacha Lakic who took inspiration from clouds for this gorgeous, yet comfortable line up.
It's available as a sofa (straight or curved), an armchair, an ottoman & even a bed frame!
